Koti Teerth

Koti Teerth is a holy tank situated at Kolhapur in Maharashtra, about 3 miles from the Mahalakshmi Temple. The legend behind this temple is that once there was a horrible fight between 33 crores of Gods and 5 demons at this sacred place. When the number of gods came down to a crore, Goddess Lakshmi with her female assistants fought against the demons and defeated them. After victory over them, the deities bathed in the tank which was named 'Koti-teerth'. It is customary to bathe in the waters of the tank before visiting the temple. It is also known as Pushkareswar Teerth as Bhagvan Pushkareswar is believed to have visited this teerth.
