Kother Temple

Kother Temple is an ancient shrine located at Kother. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple faces south-west and spans an area of about 8'4" internally. It is an excellent example of the Kashmirian style of architecture. The specialty of the temple is that the entrance measures about 3'8" by 6' whereas the recesses on the exterior on the other three sides are much smaller. In most of the other temples all the three sides will be of same dimension as the open doorway. Nearby is another small temple that faces to the west. The lower part of the temple is buried underground.

Kother Temple can be approached from Acchabal, on the Acchabal-Kashtwar road. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station and the airport is Srinagar Airport.
