Kothamoori

Kothamoori is a folk dance popular in north Kerala. It is usually performed by Malavan tribe. In Kothamoori, images of oxen are made out of bamboo and forest twigs and carried on shoulders. The procession is followed by numerous dancers with crude facial marks and skirts made of tender fronds of coconut. The dance is performed to the accompaniment of instruments such as chenda and kinni (a bronze plate).
