Koteeswarar Temple




Lying at Kottiyur near Kumbakonam is the famous Shivasthalam, Koteeswarar Temple. Also known as Kodeeswaram, the temple has a five-tiered Rajagopuram 60 ft high, with two prakarams. The presiding deity is Koteeswarar. There are separate shrines for Pandaadiammai and Somaskandar. The ganesh idol here (Kotivinayakar) is composed of several Vinayakars. Inscriptions from the 7th century are found in the temple.
