Koothattukulam is a panchayat area located in the Muvattupuzha Taluk, towards the south-east corner of Ernakulam District. The picturesque village spreads over area of 2319 hectares and lies 17 km to the south of Muvattupuzha town and 38 km to the north of Kottayam. This hamlet is surrounded by Palakuzha, Thirumaradi, Veliyannur and Elanji panchayats.

The people living in this village are generally engaged in agriculture, with small to medium landholdings. Rubber, coconut, arecanut, ginger, turmeric, kacholam and pepper are the main cash crops of Koothattukulam.

There are establishments such as a quasi-judicial court, hospital, sub-registrar's office, police station, post office, rest house (circuit house), tourist bungalow, Devaswom Board office and excise inspectorate.

Local attractions include Vadakara Church, St Jude's Shrine Koothattukulam, St Peter and Paul church at Karamala, Koothattukulam Mahadev temple, Onamkunnu Kavu and Shiva temple at Arjunanmala.

The nearest railway stations are Aluva and Tripunithura. Cochin International Airport is the closest airport.
