Kolenchery is located about 13 km east of Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam District, Kerala. It is about 30 km west of Ernakulam. This place has witnessed tremendous growth in the last few years, which has raised the status of this village to that of a town with all modern facilities.

Kolenchery is home to five churches, two temples and a mosque. Most of the land is cultivable and is irrigated by the Muvattupuzha River, and the Periyar Valley high level canals. Just 2.5 km from Kadayiruppu (where over 40 per cent of the spices, oleoresins and spices oils exported from the country are manufactured), Kolenchery has a medical college, an arts and science college, besides the higher secondary school at the village, all run by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

Kolenchery can be approached on the Kochi - Madurai National Highway 49, which divides the place in the east-west direction. Regular buses ply from Piravom (15 km away) to Kolenchery. Cochin International Airport is 35 km from this place.
