Located on the north bank of the river
Brahmaputra, Kokrajhar District is bounded in the north by the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, in the south by
Dhubri District, in the east by
Bongaigaon District, and the in the west by the state of
West Bengal. It has an area of 3,129 sq km and a population of about a million.
Kokrajhar has a sub-tropical climate that is characteristic of the lower Brahmaputra Valley, with high rainfall and humidity. It has the largest concentration of forest in Assam.
The southernmost part of Kokrajhar has two small hills that are composed of metamorphic rocks. The soil is composed of sand and clay in varying proportions ranging from pure sand in the riverbed to soft clay in different parts. Kokrajhar District has many beautiful places to visit, especially in the north, where the scenery is captivating.
