Kodanad lies on the southern bank of the Periyar River

. It was one of the largest elephant capturing centers of South India till 1977. Kodanad is 12 km east of Perumbavoor
and 45 north-east of Kochi
Kodanad's scenic high ranges are famed as the training center for elephants. Specially trained elephants provided with saddle are available for a comfortable safari. Mini zoo is an added attraction. The famous Malayattoor Church is nearby.
