Kochari

Located on the bank of Ghataprabha, Kochari is the earliest settlement in Belgaum District. It is about 13 km from Hukkeri. The name of the place is mentioned as Kondanur in an ancient copper plate record of King Kadamba Shantiverman and in another ancient inscription found at Konnur. A damaged inscription at the nearby Maruti Temple also proves the antiquity of the place.

Kochari has two temples dedicated to Basavanna and Goddess Lakshmi. Lakshmi Jatra is held once in five years during Yugadi. South of this village, over five acres of private land, there are hundreds of passage chambers tombs. Local people call these structures 'Pandava Houses’ and the Jains regard these as ‘Munivasada guhegalu’.
