Kiratamarjareswaram Temple




Kiratamarjareswaram Temple is situated at Villivakkam, Tiruvallur District, 50 miles south-east of Kanchipuram. This small ancient temple is also known as Kiratamajarapuram and Gangaikondachozhapuram. The temple deity is Lord Shiva. There is a separate shrine for Goddess Muktambikai. The temple teertham (sacred tank) is Pundarika Pushkarani. The specialty of the tank is that it never dries up even during severe drought. The chief festival is the annual Brahmotsavam held during the month of February-March. The temple can be approached by traveling 70 miles from Chennai.
