Khungru is a hamlet located near the Digar La Pass which links
Leh to the
Shyok Valley in
Leh District,
Jammu and Kashmir. The village is noted for trekking facilities. It is a common route of the trekkers on the Digar - Agyam way. The place is famous by its hilltop monastery of the same name. This 800 year old gompa belongs to the Kargyupta sect of Buddhism. Set atop a cliff, this
gompa overlooks the village.
Khungru can be approached by road from Leh. The nearest airport is Leh Airport.
