Khuldabad

Khuldabad is a sacred walled town situated 3 km from Ellora and 22 km from Aurangabad. It is also known as the ‘abode of eternity’, where the pious saints lie in deep slumber. This place is famous as the last resting place of Aurangzeb, the great Mughal emperor, who built the crenellated wall around the town. There are two dargahs situated on lofty platforms, lying exactly opposite to each other. Another major attraction in the village is a famous shrine which enshrines the moustache of Prophet Mohammed. One can also find his foot prints at the tomb of Hazrat Zainuddin Shirazi who was the last Khalifa popularly known as the 'Bawees Khwaja', whose edifice houses the tomb of Aurangzeb. There is another group of tombs to the northwest. These square stone shaped structures have large domes embellished with jalis or screens. The village is also famous for the Urs festival held annually.

Khuldabad is well connected to Aurangabad by road. The nearest airport and railway station are at Aurangabad.
