Khisongbo

A religious practice in Mizoram



Khisongbo is the worship of Khisong, a powerful spirit. It is worshipped by the Lakher tribe. Khisong is supposed to live in the mountains and rivers near every village. On the feast day, the villagers would sacrifice a pig or fowl. It is done for getting a good harvest or for the welfare of the village. There would be no priest to guide the sacrifice. Any healthy person is competent to lead the sacrifice.
