Khauldabad

Khauldabad, which literally means the ‘heavenly abode’, is an old walled town renowned for its onion-domed tombs. It is situated 22 km from Aurangabad and a 4 km ride from Ellora.

Khauldabad, also known as Rauza, has several monuments dotting the townscape and a couple of harbor important relics, which are still venerated for their miraculous properties. Though these monuments see a steady trickle of visitors, which assumes the form of a large crowd on festival days, the lesser mausoleums on the city outskirts are more or less in a neglected state.

Places of attraction include the tomb of Emperor Aurangazeb, Bani Begum Ka Bagh and Ellora caves.

Maharashtra State Road Transport Cooperation (MSRTC) buses run services to Khauldabad in every half an hour from Aurangabad.
