Khamba Thoibi

Khamba Thoibi is a dance form popular in Manipur. This folk dance is a part and parcel of Lai-Haraoba Festival. It is a duet dance performed to worship Lord Thangjing, a celebrated deity of Moirang. It is believed that Khamba and Thoibi, the hero and heroine of the Moirang episode of the hoary past, danced before Thangjing.

The Laiharaoba dance is formed by the union of Khamba Thoibi and other dance forms including Leima Jagoi and Maibi. This dance form is the source of the modern Manipuri dance.
