Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary




Established in 1965, Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Jannaram and is 50 km from Mancheral and 70 km from Nirmal. The vegetation found here is dry deciduous teak forest. Animals include chital, sambar, nilgai, muntjac (barking deer), gaur, sloth bear, panther and tiger. Birds include peacocks, partridges, quails, vultures, eagles, kites, owls, mynas, pigeons, tree-pies and kingfishers. Reptiles such as python, crocodile, star tortoise, cobra, krait and monitor lizard are also seen at Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary.

Best time to visit is from November to May. Tourists can stay at the forest rest house in Jannaram. Hyderabad is 260 km south of the sanctuary. Mancheral Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
