Kathok Lake

Kathok Lake is in Yuksom, Sikkim. This small scummy pond at the top end of town is not as beautiful as its sister lake Khecheopalri, but offers gorgeous views of the snow-capped peaks in the distance.

The first Chogyal (king) of Sikkim, Phuntsok Namgyal was crowned in 1641 in this area. Just above the lake, his ancient stone throne and wooden altar stand testimony to that historic event. Beautiful pine forests surround this calm lake. An annual festival held in December-January is the main event here. The nearby Nyingma Dubdi Monastery and trekking opportunities of the area add to the attraction.

Yuksom is 124 km from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The nearest airfield is Civil Enclave Bagdogra in Siliguri, 145 km away. Kathok Lake is well connected by motorable roads.
