Kasba

Kasba is a village in Sangameshwar taluk of Ratnagiri District. Ratnagiri is 40 km south-west. Steeped in history, Kasba is the place where Aurangazeb took the Maratha king Sambhaji as prisoner.

According to local populace, there were about 360 temples in the area, of which most of them are buried, and houses have come up over them. Presently, only eight temples exist and all of them are in dilapidated state. These temples are believed to have been built by Lord Parashuram and reconstructed by the Chalukyas.

The most popular and least damaged of the temples is Karneshwar Temple, which was restored by the Chalukya king Karnadev. Sapteshwar Temple and Jagruth Dev Temple are the other popular shrines here. Besides, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Smarak is located here.

Sangameshwar Railway Station and Pune Lohegaon Airport are the nearest access points.
