Karthigeya Temple




Karthigeya Temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga. This hill temple is at Tirumalai near Panpoli village in Tirunelveli District. The temple deity is in standing pose with his consorts. The deity here is also known by the names Tirumalaiandavar, Selvar and Kumaraswamy. One can reach the temple by a flight of 540 steps. This ancient temple houses a separate shrine for Idumban. The sacred teerthams of the temple are Saravana Poikai at the foothills, Idumban Sunai and Kuvalai Poonchunai. It is believed that sage Agastya offered worship at this shrine. The main festivals celebrated in this temple are Skanda Shashti, Thaipusam, Vaikasi Visaka and the 5 day Vasanta Vizha in Chittirai (mid April - mid May). The nearest railhead is Senkottai (6 miles).
