Karma Shri Nalanda Institute




Karma Shri Nalanda Institute(KSNI), founded by His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwang Karmapa, is located just above the main monastery of Rumtek of East Sikkim District. The Institute is 24 km from the capital city, Gangtok, and at an altitude of about 5800 ft above the sea level. It is a fully accredited institution,, affiliated to the Sampurnnant Sanskrit University of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, offering higher courses in Buddhist Studies.

The minimum qualification for admission to the Institute is eighth grade or equivalent education. The institute offers education on Buddhist philosophy, psychology, Buddhist history, Tibetan literature and art and languages such as English, Hindi, Pali and Sanskrit. Acharya degree (Master of Buddhist Studies) and Ka-rabjampa degree (Doctorate of Divinity) are also awarded.

The nearest airport is at Bagdogra at a distance of 124 km and the railway stations are at Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) situated 114 km and 125 km respectively away from the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute. It is also well connected by road.
