Karappankadu Temple




Karappankadu Temple in Thanjavur District is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The presiding deity is known as Devaperumal or Devadhirajan and the Goddess is known as Perundevi Nachiar. The Utsavar idol (procession deity) is Abeeshta Varadan (one who fulfils devotees' wishes). His consorts are Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The temple has a three-tier rajagopuram at the entrance. The vimana over the sanctum sanctorum is known as Punyakoti . Varada Pushkarani is the holy water source and Paadiri is the holy tree.

Brahmotsavam is celebrated in the Vaikasi month (mid May - mid June) and the Pahal Pathu and Raappathu are celebrated in the Margazhi month. (mid December- mid January). The temple is also known by various names such as Dakshina Naimisaranyam, Krishnaranya Kshethram, Neelambutha Vanam and Kalamega Vanam.
