Karakoram Pass

Karakoram Pass, perched at an altitude of 5563 m, is on one of the highest trade routes in the world for Yarkand in Central Asia. Situated in Jammu and Kashmir, it is formed by a saddle between the two gentle mountain tops.

This 46 m wide pass opens from the Nubra Valley towards the Tulimpati La and the Siser La passes. Some famous camp sites including Murgo, Burtso and Kazilangar are located here. There is a trek of 16 km along the dry river bed, from the Daulat Beg Oldi camp base.

Karakoram Pass is a barren land; this is due to the climatic condition of this region. Here, cold winds blow at a tremendous velocity. The slopes are gentle by the rarefied air makes the crossing of this pass particularly difficult.
