Karaivetti Bird Sanctuary is located about 35 km to the north of
Thanjavur near
Ariyalur in
Tamil Nadu.
Occupying an area of 454 hectares, the sanctuary is visited by various species of resident and migratory water birds such as highflying bar headed goose, rosy and gray pelican, white necked stork, spoonbill and ibis.
The ideal time to visit is during November and February.
Tiruchirapalli Airport, about 95 km away, is the nearest airport and Thanjavur Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
