Karadaiyan Nonbu

Karadaiyan Nonbu is a special festival celebrated by women in Tamil Nadu for the well-being of their husbands. It is celebrated in the Tamil month 'Panguni' (March-April). During this auspicious time all married women and young girls wear a sacred, yellow colored thread around their neck. It is observed for their respective and prospective husband’s well being and for a lengthy, happy married life. On this occasion, two special dishes are made and offered to god; a sweet signifying Goddess Shakti and a savory signifying Lord Shiva. These two dishes are first offered to a cow and then the women in the house break their fast by partaking of these special dishes.
