Kara




An historical and religious center in Kaushambi District, Kara is situated on the banks of the Ganges and is around 70 km north-west of Allahabad.

The place was once the provincial capital of the Mughals, ruins of which can be seen on the banks of Ganges. Kera has been a pilgrimage center since the 10th century A D. Sheetla Mata Temple, Khetrapal Bhairav Temple, Hanuman Temple and Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple are some of the prominent temples at Kara. The fort of king Jaichand, Jama Masjid, tomb of Sant Maluk Das and Dargah of Khwaja Karak are the other interests here.

Nearest airport is at Lucknow. Sirathu Railway Station serves Kara.
