Kapil Muni Fair

Kapil Muni Fair, also known as Kolayat Fair, is the largest fair of Bikaner District, Rajasthan. It falls on Kartik Purnima (October-November) and is held at Kapil Muni Temple in Kolayat, a small village which takes its name from sage Kapil, who is believed to be a descendant of Lord Brahma. This fair lasts for 10 days.

During this fair, a large number of devotees assemble here to take a holy dip in the Kolayat Lake. The devotees reverently sing the songs extolling the virtues of sage Kapil on this occasion.

Offerings such as coconut, dry fruits and sweets are made at the temple. Deepmalika, a ritual of floating burning lamps on river, is performed in the evening. This presents an awe-inspiring sight.

A cattle fair is held in conjunction with this fair, and certificates and prizes are awarded to the best breeders during this fair.
