Kapaleeswarar Temple

An Ancient Shiva Temple



Kapaleeswarar Temple is an old Shiva temple located at Niranam near Thiruvalla of Pathanamthitta District. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, in the form of Kapaleeswara, the temple houses the family deity of the Niranam poets who lived in the 15th century. According to Mahakavi Ulloor S Parmeswara Iyer, the temple once belonged to Pettikaimal, a feudal lord from Niranam. There is another famous temple by this name at Mylapore, Tamil Nadu.

Niranam is situated about 7 km from Thiruvalla. Thiruvalla Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
