Kanwar Mela




Kanwar Mela is celebrated in Haridwar, in the month of July or August. The biggest religious event after the Maha Kumbha Mela, it gathers thousands of Shiva devotees from around the world. The specialty of this festival is the dip in the Ganges. On this occasion, devotees travel by cycle and foot, carrying ornamented Kanwars. Vessels hung on bamboo poles are called Kanwars.

The closest railway station is in Haridwar and the nearest airport is Jolly Grant, 35 km from Haridwar.
