Kalmath Temple

Kalinamath Temple or temple of stone, which later came to be known as Kalmath, is about 96 km from Karwar. It is barely about 3 km from the town of Yellapur.

A monument of historical importance, Kalmath has been built with pillars of stone and hence the name. Erected in 12th century, the temple enshrines a shivling in the main sanctum. The shivling is made up of soft stone and a Nandi faces it. The roof of the temple is made of stone slabs and the stone pillars depict various forms of gods and goddesses.

Exquisite carvings adorn the main entrance of the temple. The pillars are decorated with beautiful carvings with inscriptions in Kannada. A narrow well is seen on the left side of the temple.
