Kalikettu

Kalikettu, otherwise known as Kaliyattam, is a ritual dance drama performed in the Bhadrakali temples of Thrissur District. As the name indicates, this dance is related to Goddess Kali. It is usually performed at Kavu - sacred grove - in temples. The most impressive part of this sacred dance is the oracle dance of Velichappad.

Performers of this dance are known as Parayar. Mahakali (Mohini), Karimkali, Kuttiddarika and Mookkan chathan are the characters involved in the dance.

The rituals prior to the dance include Kuruthi Tharpana and drawing of Kalam. Chenda and Kuzhal are the musical instruments used in accompaniment of this dance.
