Kalighat Temple is located in the city of Kolkata
on the banks of the river Hooghly
. The city is said to have derived its present name from the word 'Kalighat.' The temple is devoted to the Goddess Kali
and is considered as one of the 52 Shakti Peethas of India.
There are many stories regarding the origin of the temple.
