Kaleeswarar Temple




Kaleeswarar Temple is a highly revered shrine situated at Kalaiyar Koil, in Sivagangai District of Tamil Nadu. It is about 18 km east of Sivagangai, and 30 km north of Devakottai. The temple has two Rajagopurams – one big and another small. The temple premises are surrounded by huge stone-wall about 18 ft in height.

It is said that Thirugnana Sambandar, Sundarar, Appar and Arunagirinathar have visited this temple and sung in praise in the lord.

Vaikasi Visakam and Thaipusam are the major festivals celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine every year.

Kaleeswarar Temple can be accessed by bus from Manamadurai, Sivagangai and Devakottai. Sivaganga Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
