Kalakshetra was established on a 100 acre campus on the shores of the Indian Ocean near
Chennai. It was founded by Rukmini Devi. Classes are held in cottages set in wooded surroundings to create the ambience of a gurukula. This school attracts students from India and abroad to learn dance and allied arts such as music and theatre craft.
