Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is located at
Kakrapar in
Surat District. It started commercial production in 1993 and this pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) produces 440 MWe of power for civilian use.
It uses natural uranium as fuel and heavy water as moderator and coolant and is the best performing pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) in the world.
