Kaalakaaleswarar Temple




Lying on the banks of river Kowsiga at Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore District, is Kaalakaaleswarar Temple. The temple is 20 km away from Coimbatore. The principal deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. The temple also has a shrine to Varada Paramaa Devi Naachiyar. Legend has it that Yamaraja consecrated a Shivlinga and prayed here to get absolved from the punishment of Lord Shiva. As Shiva is said to be the master of Yama (Kalan), the temple got its name as Kaalakaaleswarar temple. Kavayakaliamman temple is nearby. One can approach the temple from Coimbatore by buses.
