Junnar




Situated amid the Western Ghats along the western coast of India, Junnar is about 110 km north of Pune in Maharashtra. This historic town is the birth place of the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji. Junnar is just 10 km from Ozar, famous for the Ozar Vigneshwara Temple, one of the Ashta Vinayaka shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesh.

Major point of attraction here is the Junnar Caves and the Shivneri Fort. Other tourist attractions in the area include Bhimashankar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and a Satellite Center in Arvi.

Kukdi River flows through the town. Lenyadri is at a distance of 5 km from Junnar.

Junnar can be approached from Mumbai (177 km) on the Mumbai-Aurangabad route. State transport buses are available from Shivajinagar Bus Stand and from Mumbai Central Bus Station. Talegaon Railway Station serves this place.
