Jhora

Jhora is a local folk dance performed by the people of Kumaon, Uttaranchal. It is held in the month of Chaitra to welcome the New Year. The dance is accompanied by Jhora songs. Women form a circle and encircle their hands on one another’s waist. At that time a man sits in the middle of that circle. He plays the huka, a small drum. Women in the circle put one step back and forth, keep moving rhythmically and slowly in that circle. Now this dance is held on all happy occasions or at fairs.
