Jehangir Mahal

Jehangir Mahal, a palace crowned by graceful chhatris, is situated at Orchha in the Tikamgarh District of Madhya Pradesh. It was built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 17th century to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jehangir to Orchha. The facade of the palace is adorned with turquoise tiles. Two stone elephants flank the staircase, holding bells in their trunks to announce the arrival of the king. The palace has elegant hanging balconies, terraces and onion domes which are piled around a central courtyard.
