Jayankondam




Jayankondam is a small town situated 10 km from Gangaikonda Cholapuram, in Perambalur District, Tamil Nadu. Original name of the place was Nellimanagramam, after the sacred goose berry tree (Nellimaram) standing near a local Lord Shiva temple. The temple is noted for its massiveness and rich sculptures. The town was later renamed Jayankondam by Rajendra Chola, the mighty Chola emperor, who ruled Tamil Nadu between A. D. 1018 and 1048.
