Janni Shikar




Janni Shikar is a festival celebrated every 12 years in theChota Nagpur region of Bihar. During this festival the women folk of this region sharpen their weapons, dress in male attire and set out on a hunt. The festival is also known as Era Sendra. It is celebrated for about a month, during the months of March and April. The literal meaning of Janni Shikar is, hunt by women. There are no evidences relating to the origin of this festival. The festival of Janni Shikar symbolizes the equality of men and women.
