Jami Masjid

Masjid-E-Ala

Jami Masjid, situated inside the fortress of Srirangapatna, was built by Tipu Sultan in 1787. The masjid has two imposing minarets which are adorned with cornices, floral bands and metallic Kalashas at the apex. A flight of 200 steps leads to the top of each minaret. The finely engraved verses from the Holy Quran and the Persian inscriptions about the date of construction of the mosque are in well preserved state. Srirangapatna is around 16 km from Mysore.
