Jamda is located in the southern part of West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand. It is near the district's border with Orissa. Chaibasa, the district headquarters, is about 70 km north-east.
Ranchi, the state capital, is around 130 km north. The nearest airport is Ranchi Airport. Bara Jamda Railway Station is on the Gua - Padapahara rail route.
