Jambudwip is a small island situated 10 km offshore in the Buffer Zone of the Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve in West Bengal
. The whole island, with the exception of Mandirtala
, submerges into the sea for half of the year and reappears only from March/April to September/October.
Jambudwip boasts an interesting variety of aquatic life. Every year, a fishing colony is set up from October to January. Ruins of an old lighthouse can be seen in the island.
