Jaipur District



Jaipur District was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It is located in the eastern part of Rajasthan, and is bounded by Sikar and Alwar in the north, Tonk, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur in the south, Nagaur in the west, and Bharatpur and Dausa districts in the east. Jaipur has a total area of 14,068 sq km with a population of around 5 million. The city Jaipur is the district headquarters.

The climate is healthy and dry in nature. The normal annual rainfall is 55 cm. Banas and Banganga are the major rivers passing through Jaipur District. The main agricultural crops are maize, jowar, wheat, barley, gram, pulses, groundnut and sugarcane.

The tourist attractions are Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Jal Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Birla Mandir, Govind Devji Temple, Nahargarh National Park, Nahargarh Fort, Amber Palace, Government Museum and Palace, Jaigarh Fort, Modern Art Gallery, Ram Niwas Garden, Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh, Vidyadhar's Garden, Padmaprabhuji Teerth, and Virat Nagar Museum. Important fairs and festivals include Sheetla Mata fair, Banganga fair, Gogaji fair and elephant festival. Sanganer Airport is located in Jaipur.
