Jaigarh Fort

A medieval stronghhold

Jaigarh Fort or the fort of victory is situated on the Chilh-ka-Tola or the hill of eagles, 400 ft above the Amber Fort. The walls of the fort are spread over 3 km and have two huge entrances - Doongar darwaza in the south and Awani darwaza in the east. This fort was made for military purposes. The main attraction here is a gigantic cannon named Jaivan, perched on top of a tower. It weighs 50 tons with an 8 m barrel and a trajectory of about 20 km. This is said to be the world's largest cannon on wheels.

The highest point in Jaigarh Fort is the seven-storied Diya Burj, which allows a panoramic view of the city of Jaipur. The water supply and storage system of the fort is perfectly planned. Sagar Talav, with octagonal bastions and huge dams, is one of the grand reservoirs here.
