Perched at an altitude of about 1,522 ft above sea level, Jagannathpur is located in Ranchi District of Jharkhand. It is about 10 km south-west of Ranchi.

The town houses several educational institutions. Various subsidiary of the Heavy Engineering Corporation functions here.

The place is famous for the 17th century Jagannathpur Temple lying on a hillock, which resembles the architectural style of Puri Temple. During the festival season, Rath Yatra is conducted here.

Buses are available from Jaintgarh, Luia and Ranchi to Jagannathpur. The nearest airport is Ranchi Airport and railhead is Ranchi Railway Station.
