Jagannath Temple




Located on the Burra Chowk, Jagannath Temple of the 17th century, enshrines Lord Vishnu and other deities. The temple was built by Raja Budh Prakash in AD 1681. The entrance is through a majestic arched gateway. The temple walls are elaborately decorated with paintings and murals illustrating folk themes. Jagannath Temple is also famous for its Bawan Dwadashi Festival held every year in September. This religious festivity culminates in a colourful procession, after which around fifty two idols of local gods are carried in procession to the Jagannath temple where they are floated ceremoniously in a pool, and are restored at midnight to their niches.
