Jadavpur University is a State University, established in 1955. The main campus lies on Raja S C Mallik Road in the southern part of
Kolkata. There is a second campus at
Salt Lake City.
The university has four specialized institutions affiliated to it. It has 34 departments, grouped under three faculties, namely, arts, engineering and technology and science. Besides, there are 16 interdisciplinary schools and 21 centers of research.
The main campus is about 8 km by local rail from Sealdah Railway Station, 15 km by road from Howrah Railway Station; 25 km from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and 3 km by road from Metro Railway Station at Tollygunge.
