Indira Point

Also known as Pygmalion, Indira Point is the southernmost tip of India. It is around 51 km from 'Point Zero' at Campbell Bay and 140 km from Sumatra in Indonesia. Galathea River flows near this place, among the dense green foliage. There was a lighthouse at this point which guides the ships voyaging from Colombo to Singapore. Rare species of monkeys are also found here. On the western coast there is a small island of Megapod, where the rare bird Megapod is found. It is a favorite nesting site for Olive Ridley turtles, leatherback turtles and other sea fauna.
