Ikkeri




Ikkeri, the erstwhile capital of the Keladi Nayakas, is situated 76 km to the north of Shimoga and about 3 km to the south of Sagar taluk. The word Ikkeri means 'two streets'. The city was exquisitely planned with walls forming three concentric enclosures. The palace in the citadel was build of mud and timber and is adorned with carvings and false guildings. The stone temple of Aghoreshvara is the major point of attraction.
